Relax and Restore yourself with a Plant Food Picnic

With the Independence Day Holiday recent in my mind, a bunch of backlogged projects waiting for my attention, and a “why” phase three year old – this week has me totally beat.

Seriously, I give up. I’m inches away from ordering a pizza and a cherry pie served with a side of Ho-Hos and Twinkies.

But really – sometimes we all need a reset. Not just a mental one, but a physical and food based one. While you all know how I feel about getting away from screens and getting back to working with our hands, I want to go beyond even that. I want to get out in the sunshine, be surrounded by plants, and eat food that nourishes me.

Oh! Also, I got this gorgeous vintage picnic basket that is just begging me to take her out for a spin.

The solution? A plant food picnic. I visited my local Meijer and stocked up on a variety of items from Silk, So Delicious Dairy Free, Vega and Earthbound Farm Organic. Each of these products is 100% plant based.

Next, I whipped up a delicious lunch for myself. The Silk Unsweetened Coconut Milk, some home made mayonnaise, a little dill, chives, and spices makes for an amazing ranch dressing. The Earthbound Farm Organic Spring mix is the perfect backdrop for that dressing, so I packed them both in some glass jars for the picnic.

Next I started with my homemade cold brew coffee, and a little So Delicious Dairy Free Coconut Creamer. I made sure to keep the bottle icy cold until right before it was time to go for my picnic walk.

The Vega Protein Bars were the easiest, since I just tossed those in the basket with my current book, some sunglasses and a blanket. Next stop – nature!

I struggled a little bit to find a space that was quiet in my area, mostly since it is a very family friendly and popular place. But tucked away in a corner by a fence I laid out my blanket and got to work doing nothing.

I read my book, I ate my salad, saved the Vega bar for a sweet dessert and then finished it all off with my delicious iced coffee.

The whole experience was a lovely exercise in putting more plants in my life. Both inside and outside of my body. I came away feeling restored, with more patience to spend on my toddler, more conviction to withstand the Twinkies and Ho-Hos of the world, and a better outlook for the day.

If you want to pack your own Plant food Picnic, Meijer is running a “Buy 10 participating products save $3 promotion from 7/8/18 – 7/15/18” and also a Perks offer to “Save over $17 on featured Silk, So Delicious Dairy Free & Vega products 7/15/18- 8/11/18” Check your local Meijer for details!
