This week has been a hectic one. Drama and emergencies at work, clutter and mess piling up at home, and hardly any time to myself. No time except the 2-3 minutes of Pinterest, Facebook, or Google Reader I snatch here and there on my phone or on my work computer. I know, I know, shame on me I should be focusing! But you know, sometimes a girl just needs a little eye candy. Sometimes I need a bright color, a clever saying, a sweet message to look at and adore. Why? Because it reminds me that I’m human, and that there is more to life that whatever print piece or website I’m designing at the time. And also because all of those perfectly kept houses almost make me forget what mine looks like. And because sometimes I just need to look at something beautiful. No shortage of that this week! Now I guess its time to share my favorite treasures from those stolen internet glances.
#1 Eye Spy Bottle – by Kami at NoBiggie.Net
I just can not believe that I have never seen this before! Its a fantastic in the car, or in church activity that can keep kids interested and also teach. I like the rice idea, but colored themed bottles would be great too! Imagine a blue bottle with only blue treasures inside! These could be great party favors as well!
#2 How To Use Thin Fonts- by Jin at Under a Cherry Tree
I am the proud owner of a Silhouette Cameo. I love it to death, but I have never ventured into using it to sketch- let alone write! Mostly because I was just scared and worried I’d break the thing. But the examples that Jin uses here make me want to throw caution to the wind! These single line fonts create the most amazing effects when “written” by the machine using ordinary, everyday markers! I’m so happy for the know-how. =D
#3 Washi Tape Bunting – by Kadie at Seven Alive
Okay, we all know it. Sometimes certain things gain huge popularity in the craft/blog world and sweep us all by storm. That’s what washi tape has done lately. I’ve seen in on paper bags and vases, birdhouses and cupcakes. But this little gen here is the most simple, clever, and perfectly effective use I’ve seen! Instead of just using washi tape ON something, Kadie has made the tape the star! And how much more simple can you get! This is just perfect for parties, for stringing across cards – you name it.
#4 Bacon Cookies – by Jennifer at Not Your Momma’s Cookie
What can I say, the girl has talent. This makes TWICE this week that I was so excited over one of her posts to feature her. (Nyan Cat Cookies were my personal fave from this weeks Sweet Sharing Monday) But I think we are soul sisters. She’s obviously as ridiculous and nerdy as I am, and NOW THERE’S BACON! Seriously though, these cookies are cute and engenius. At first glance they really do look like bacon. I think they’d be a super- cute father’s day gift!
#4 Tin Can Mother’s Day Treats – by Sara at Our Best Bites
Okay so this one isn’t new. In fact its from last year. But it popped up on my radar again this week- and I think its adorable. =D I’ve seen a few of the tin-can makeover projects, but never ventured to try it myself. Perhaps I will this year because I’m always itching for creative things to do on mother’s day. =D Oh! And don’t forget those SO sweet printables! In my opinion its the labels and the tags that make this treat extra special. =D
Thank you each for putting up such wonderful eye candy, so that my snippets of wasted time could be so rewarding. Seriously, I think each and every one of you should take a little credit for the fact that I have maintained the majority of my sanity this week. Oh! And grab a button to show off!
